"Every chess master was once a beginner." — Irving Chernev
Born from the historic Bainbridge Chess Club, the Silverdale Chess Club launched in September 2024 and has quickly become the beating heart of Kitsap County chess. We're a USCF-affiliated club where national masters sit across from beginners, and every game is a chance to grow.
Whether you're chasing your first checkmate or preparing for your next rated tournament, you'll find a seat at our table. We provide sets, clocks, and a library of chess books — all you need to bring is your fighting spirit.
Led by National Master Larry Sivitz, our club offers casual play, coaching, mini-tournaments called "Quads," and a welcoming community that proves chess isn't just a game — it's a conversation.

"Chess is the gymnasium of the mind — and here in Silverdale, everyone's invited to train."
NM Larry Sivitz earned the prestigious National Master title from the US Chess Federation in 1989, joining the elite ranks of players who have achieved a 2200+ rating. With decades of experience as a player, teacher, coach, tournament organizer, and analyst, Larry brings world-class chess knowledge to Kitsap County.
Larry worked alongside Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan — four-time U.S. Champion and World Chess Hall of Fame inductee — contributing to the acclaimed "Play Winning Chess" book series published by Microsoft Press, the best-selling chess instruction series of its era.
As club president and head of curriculum, Larry provides hands-on instruction for players of every level and fosters the kind of thoughtful, inclusive chess culture that makes Silverdale Chess special.
Our home base is a family-friendly craft brewery in the heart of Silverdale. Great beer, great atmosphere, great chess. Situated near REI and Home Depot — easy to find, hard to leave.
The Pacific Northwest has one of the richest chess traditions in North America. From Yasser Seirawan's legendary career in Seattle to dozens of active clubs across Washington, chess runs deep in these evergreen forests. Silverdale Chess is proud to be part of this legacy.
No membership required. No sign-up. No experience necessary. Just show up on Saturday, sit down at a board, and play. The Silverdale Chess Club is your club — all you have to do is arrive.
